Dancing in the Dark

One week in March before the pandemic shutdown, these images were captured at a gala wine-tasting and dance party at Kansas City's Union Station. Upon further review, I realized that the camera's long-exposure setting had somehow opened a window into an adjacent parallel dimension — one in which the carefree atmosphere had turned dark and mysterious, filled with ghostly forms and unrecognizable solid shapes. Relationships had become indecipherable, intentions oblique. Was this a world whose pleasures we could never understand? Or merely one in which complacency ruled, even in the face of uncertainty, horror and death?
